Binchotan Activated Carbon Stick Filter with universal spiral

Binchotan charcoal gives a good taste to tap water!
Leave the charcoal in the water in your carafe or bottle for 1 to 8 hours: you will be amazed at the filtration result.
Each stick lasts 6 months and is supplied in recyclable, cleaned and vacuum-packed packaging for immediate use.

The tap water filtering carbon you know and love just got better! This universal spiral holds the charcoal in place and gives you the opportunity to filter water in any bottle without rattling or scratching! This spiral is neutral in taste and easy to use.

HISTORY

It is said that a form of Binchotan coal (sometimes called 'white coal') was introduced to Japan by a learned monk named Kukai 1200 years ago. This later became popular during the Edo period (17th century) by a man named Binchuya Chozaemon.

MANUFACTURING

Quercus Phillyraeoides (oak) trees are pruned and the wood is transported to the kiln. It is left in storage untouched for 1 month for the wood to dry. It is then introduced into the oven and burns until it reaches 1200°C until it turns red hot and charred. The Binchotan charcoal is then removed from the kiln and quickly covered with a powder made of earth, sand and ashes. This process gives the surface of the coal its whitish tint (explaining the name 'white coal' given to it). The rapid rise in temperature, followed by equally rapid cooling, burns the bark and leaves a smooth, hard surface. This process lasts 21 days.

FUNCTIONING

This type of filtration works using a process similar to the reverse osmosis system. Binchotan coal has an incredibly porous surface comprising tiny cavities oriented in many directions – 1 single gram has a surface area exceeding 250m2 (the size of a tennis court). The positive ions of contaminants in the water (e.g. chlorine) are attracted to the negative surface of the carbon where they are retained. In return, the charcoal releases its natural minerals like calcium, potassium and magnesium into the water, which softens and improves the taste of tap water.

USE

The best feature of Binchotan charcoal (other than its super filtration property) is that it lasts 6 months. All you have to do is make sure to recharge it by boiling it for 10 minutes after 3 months of use.

The universal spiral can be used in any gourd or bottle with a neck of at least 30 mm in diameter.
